A first loan, explained in her own language

A microfinance lender (sample)

  1. 10:30 am A field officer uploads KYC for a women's self-help group. Aadhaar numbers are masked as they arrive. Personal data is protected from the first moment.
  2. 11:00 am Each borrower gets a call in Hindi. The assistant says it is automated and checks identity with her year of birth. Nothing is shared with the wrong person.
  3. 11:02 am The key terms are read out plainly: amount, instalment, number of weeks, and the total she will repay. She is asked if she agrees. First-time borrowers understand what they sign.
  4. 11:04 am She asks what happens if she repays early. The answer comes from the lender's approved policy. Questions are answered honestly, from the rules that apply.
  5. 11:05 am Her consent is recorded with the time and the terms she heard. Consent is on record, not assumed.
  6. 3:00 pm A loan officer reviews each file and approves; the branch manager checks. A person stays accountable for every loan.
  7. Week 3, 10:00 am A repayment reminder goes out within permitted calling hours. One borrower asks for a person and is handed over. Reminders are respectful, and a person is always one request away.
